I'd say the carb piston chattering away about to have a nervous breakdown if it's stopped since you fed it some oil.

Not tappet noise?
Presumably its somthing loose. Just trying to think what there...
Youre not on serovo brakes are you?
Hold on, ill go have a look at mine, see whats over there...

Brake machanism, cluctch or a fuse box, unless its coming from the engine itself...
What are your engine mounts like?

hmmm this could be it.

I can't have a fiddle now cause she's a little noisy (LOL) so don't want to annoy the neighbours

I'll drive her to work tomorrow and report back to see if its improved.

I have checked the vacuum advance and while the tube had pulled out of the plug, its not split or warped or damaged in any way. Its still a snug fit so I would guess that its still fit for purpose, yes?

Yes, should be ok. On mine the connector had totally disintergrated.

How often do you top your dashpot up as a matter of interest?

Ta,

Thanks for the replies, once again TMF comes to my rescue.

I'll update on my noisy idle tomorrow.

Cheers again

Topped up the dashpot and she runs fine now, drinks less fuel.

There is some serious movement by the engine if I give it a tug (oo er) so I'm guessing that this is causing my rattle.

She has also developed a accelerator cable niggle and is sticking slightly but we'll sort that soon enough

Right, we are off again.

Driving home from work and she has now started to splutter under load.

If I tickle the accelerator then its not to bad but if i put my foot down all i get is a great deal of coughing and spluttering from the back end and not much else.

There is also a strong smell of petrol if I floor it.

I changed the coil a couple of days ago and topped up the dashpot with 3 in 1. Either of these likely to cause my probs?

have you checked the mixture? looked at the plugs?

right coil? personally i use engine oil, never liked 3 in 1, made it run carp for me so if it was engine oil in there before change it to that.

but im sure a debate will start about which oil to use lol.
