i noticed that the mini was leaking coolant today, which wasn't too much of a surprise as I'd had the radiator out last weekend to fit the new engine mounts.

i thought it would just be one of the hoses but oh no... i managed to trace the leak to the by pass hose blanking cup on the water pump. as the mainstream doesnt have a by pass hose the hole in the pump is blocked off by a rubber cup held on with a spring clip...

now i only fitted the pump two years ago when we bought the car (for the second time) as the fact that the old pump was leaking was one of the reasons the old owner decided to sell it on.
I'm really not impressed with how long this plug has lasted.
I've ordered a new one from mini spares but it wont be here till next week, so I've plugged it up with a length of heater hose plugged with a bolt. this will probably last longer than the original part.

next time I'm buying the pump with the hole sealed up...

so if you have one of these water pumps fitted, get out and check the by pass hose plug before it's too late :D

U could always tap a thread in it and use a grub screw to plug the hole
