anyone with experience on the a series autos know whats wrong with our little mini? It wont go into forward gears? will reverse and park but no longer has any drive in the forward gears? It started this week when the other half took her parents to visit some family, it started by slipping like crazy as if a clutch was badly worn out. Went to try it yesterday and it just doesnt drive at all! :D

could be a problem with the torque convertor but I think it would've effected all gears not just the forwards ones....

i've read here that loss of drive on an auto is often due to outdated oil
definitely an oil change wouldnt kill it if it has not been done recently :D

If there's no evidence of 4 litres of oil on the floor then the torque convertors ok.

Oil is very important in an auto, check your oil level to start with, if it upto level, then I'm afraid it's dead.... and with recon auto boxes running between 700 and 1k for the unit, probably cheaper to replace the car, or complete power unit for a know runner.

What sort of engine 998 or 1275, carb or injection.

Cheers everyone, I do think it is screwed. I have replaced the oil with 20/50 classic oil to see if that would help but it has not. It has been judeering while taking up dry for awhile. Then it just started slipping and now it wont work at all.

The car is absolutely mint with no rust, it is an N reg 1275 injection auto with 48K. I am looking at replacing the whole lot for a 1275 injection manual if I can get one. I have been offered one for £400 is that good?

I think you'll also need the ecu off the manual, they are different to the auto, but not sure in what way ( possibly just the mapping )

Oh, and when you've got the auto out, if you want to loose it in any direction, I'll have it...

I thought the only thing different is the wiring for the gear start inhibit? Which you can just bridge where it connects to the gear selector.
