Hi,
After getting the engine out of my mini the other day, so i could start looking at how bad the rust is. I noticed that there was lots of rust on the bulkhead and idealy i would like to repair it. How would the best way to get rid of the rust on the bulkhead? Would this work mean takin it to speacilist to have it taken care of, or would i be able to do it myself or would it be best to get a another mini and do that one up?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Chris

Im sure you could get some panels to repair it. Or you could do what the last owner of my mini would have done, fill it, paint it and sell it.

ideally that what i want to do patch the rust with new panels, but from what i gather the bulkhead is quite a structual part of the car but would the repair not weaken it at all?

Not if you do the repair properly using the correct grade steel.

The bulkhead is often rusty in a mini, is it surface rust or is it rotten, a few pictures would help, it would be a differcult panel to replace as a whole, as looking at the construction it looks like it would be one of the first panels to go in. If it's the bottom 9 inches for instance you could do a part bulkhead cut out and replacement

Cheers
David

The bulkhead is getting pretty rotten, with some parts already/nearly rusted through. So far it only appears to be on the top panel near the join.
I'll try to upload the pictures tonight, thats if the weather clears up and stops raining.

....how on earth did the bulkheat rust. I thought the engine and bonnet would keep it good.

When i got it off my mate, it had been sat around without a bonnet on, but i dont now how long for. I also noticed that the engine head and block was turning a rusty colour too, but luckily i got another engine wit hthe purchase.

Chris

P.S. hopefully i'll have pictures of the rust by tomorrow due to the unhelpful rain ;D
