I made a discovery the other day.

Maybe its only my car but at a certain RPM my interior lock latches begin to resonate (pretty loudly).. What's weirder is that the left and right one resonate at completely different RPMs, resulting in 2 noisy moments while accelerating instead of one :)

Throw in the heater switch panel and the instrument cluster, and you'd think my car's about to blow up when accelerating (actually.. it very well could  )

Anyone else's cars make really annoying rattle noises? :P

Mine adds rattles at odd times to keep me guessing! Always in different places, different sounds, and nothing that can be easily identified!

My left hand side repeater rattles like buggery at times, not fixed it yet, not a mini without rattles and stuff.

Its a Mini, they were built rattley.
Funniest is our boat for rattles. Its doesn't have a rev counter, but you can guess what RPM by what ratle you can hear. Engage gear and the top infront of the instrument binnacle rattles. At just over tickover, the top stops rattling, and the windows rattle instead. At about 2000 RPM the grill pan rattles. About 2500 RPM and the kettle rattles. After that everything smooths out, but she only revs to about 4000 RPM anyway, so you can guesstimate.

the more cylinders you have the smoother the engine is. The rougher the engine the eaiser to rattles to appear. Since the A series is not known for its smoothness I just accept it and turn the stereo up louder. Stereo which include an iPod > Amp > Two speakers under the rear seats. Found the amp in the garage and the speaker and case setup cost me 50 bucks. With an amp there is no need for a head unit to play stuff from an iPod. So it all works out.

I've got a nice bonnet rattle and there's a screw missing from my front bumper which creates some nice background percussion. the most irritating one is the steering column which keeps seperating a little so I keep it stuck together with insulation tape!!

Answer, keep a blob of bluetak (or chewing gum) in the car, my ashtray rattled, and the steering column cowl, that one took ages to find, I had half the car apart trying to locate that one.

i've sat in traffic many a time just hitting parts of the dash and trim to try to stop rattles. favourites are the heater contols, steering column shroud, centre console, and the L/H bucket seat (used to squeak when empty). My engine never seemed to rattle or make nasty noises, but the bonnet prop used to rattle under the bonnet, making a nice tinkly noise.

I think it adds to the character, plus when you solve one, it just moves somewhere else!!

I don't understand ... if the engine's running, how can you hear anything else? :erm:

I remeber i had a squeak that was driving me crazy for months, my car was rattle free, but this squeak did my head in!!

anyway, found out it was the bonnet rubbing on a screwhead just above the grille, slapped a bit of grase on the screw head...and ...viola!! one completely rattle (and squeak) free cooper sportpack!!

Where shall i start...

Heater control panel, instrument binnacle, somethin in the boot, heat exchange on the air inlet pipe underbonnet, torch and toolkit under back seat for when it breaks down....

and worst of all i dont have a stereo in it at the moment as i'm waitin to find some spare time to make a dash to house 1 in! (which will no doubt cause more noise's)
