Does anyone know what the final times were for the Z cars stuff?

I only stayed for a couple of hours as it was freezing cold and looking like rain was on it's way.

Fastest run i saw was Stuart Meads 10.6 secs I think. Next fastest was a huge gap to 12 secs and above.

i did 12.05 with my red race car suffered a bit with wheelspin on the start its not like when we get a parade lap then a warm up lap at the circuit racing the tyres need a couple of laps to get warmed up
the monte was desappointing as the fuelling is way out we had it on a dyno earlier this year but have changed onto race fuel and its made a huge difference
it was bogging down in 3rd and shouldnt be at all so i tried 2nd gear out the grid that was ok but then it just hadnt any real power as it was running far too rich
back to the dyno for us then
it still did 11.9 seconds but should be in the mid to high 8 seconds if its running right i should have taken the yellow monte as that would have happily run 9 seconds every time
to be fair to the blue monte carlo thats the first time its turned a wheel ever so theres something to build on

Mid to high 8 seconds, are you sure, that is very serious performance for any drag car never mind a mini

I saw Stuart Mead's second run, the guy on the mega phone said he was going to use the NOS on the third but I went just after the shed racing crash. It looked very very fast to me

The jet car did a 6..

I was gonna say the same David.

Although if you put the numbers into the equation in the front of the Vizard book it comes out in the 8 secs bracket. However, mine comes out at 11secs and there is no way it will ever go that fast!!

What time do you think yours would run? Lockharts gulf racing one does it in eleven (titanium subframe) very light, so he says?? Also what do the busa powred one's do it in?

not had the nuts to try mine yet.

to do 8 second quarters you would need good conditions a good set of tyres and hook it up correctly at the start not miss the ideal gearchange point and keep it on the planet
the yellow monte had warm tyres when i did the standing starts with it, we were on elvingtons concrete pad which i know is grippy stuff every run i did was sub 10 seconds and the best was 9.3
the trace from the data logging showed two tenths where i changed just tad too late and hit the rev limiter this spoils the accelaration by two tenths si in theory that day i could have done a 9.1 second quarter
ive spoken to sunoco this morning about the fuel we were running in the blue mointe and they tell me that the car will run very rich with their fuel in with no adjustments to the mapping we need to do more mapping tolean the car off no wonder it feltlike the choke was on

Mine will run in the 12secs bracket so no problems there, the fastest i saw Chris Lockhart run was 12.1 secs but that was with nitrous running. His car is heavier than mine by the way!

I havent seen a busa one run yet that is in standard road trim, but Mark Rally might have some times for his....

Chris, you must be running quite high octane fuel if it is making it run rich, do you know what the octane number is?

im running sunoco 114 octane supreme
i spoke to a boffin at sunoco today and he lost me very quickly with oxygen particles attaching to things in the fuel???
i know your specialist subject is fuel chemistry and you would have understood basically i cocked up putting fuel in it that it wasnt mapped for
we will still go for some times for the monte as the run i did in 2nd gear the car hooked up very well just to be lost by me getting 5th instead of 3rd
i felt that it had more initial grip than the bike engined car and in theory its bigger bhp and torque should equate to better figures
how fast does mr vizards book think we can do it in?

If you put the figures into the equation you get 7.8 seconds which sounds mighty quick. I will be very impressed if you can get into the 8 seconds bracket. I used a weight of about 500Kg and 450bhp for your car.

For my car it comes out as 10.9 seconds which i dont think is possible!!

You can quite easily get octane up by blending the fuel yourself, just use some cellulose paint thinners which is basically toluene, xylenes and methanol. Of course with octane levels that high you will need to re-adjust the fueling or increase the boost a little to keep stoichiometry at around 14:1. You could always add a touch of nitrous which will nicely increase your oxygen level!
