well turns out one of the springs on the ballast broke so needed a new dizzy!! cool all fixed.
Perhaps you mean the springs on the bob weights. Ballast is a term used with regard to the coil and its power supply.
Regardless, I'm glad you got it sorted out... but I still don't understand the motion you described based on what you found.
