As the gearbox might be fubard in my car im deciding on what to do about changing the engine from a 998 to a 1200 automatic which we have or have manual engine put in instead,im hoping to sell the car so im wondering what would appeal to any buyers out there , any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks

If you're intending on selling the vehicle, as horrid as it sounds, convert it to manual you'll increase your potential buyers 10 fold.

I'll be doing a 'How-to convert from auto to manual' guide when i do mine.....

1200 engine? think you mean 1275 :D...

You'll either need a maual subframe,... or some of the subframe Converison spacers that minisport make.

aha, so it's acarb 1275. nice one :D... I'd be tempted top ditch the auto and go for the manual, but it all depends on what you prefer to drive.

the manual is FAR easier to fix should another gearbox related problem occur.

Don't forget,... Auto gearboxes need the oil changing every 3000 miles without fail to ensure long running life. It sounds very often but it is VITAL.

I know absolutely nothing about cars i should do now having the many probs we have had with the car, the oils been changed about four times this year so the oil should be ok,its deciding on what to do for the best, get the gearbox looked at as guessworks has said it probably just needs adjusting but what kind of work that involves and how much it would cost i dont know or just have a manual engine put in then sell it.
Maybe we should just take it to an Auto garage have it looked at first

Rather than the garage, I would recommend Guessworks.... He's currently 'playing' :D with some autos...

just so you know, A recon box for a Mini auto is around 1k... and around that much to fix it too if it's damaged badly :)

I have been quoted £600 to a thousand and theres no way im paying that as i dont think my car is worth it .
But it may not be the gearbox
I went for a drive in the car yesterday and it was fine, the gears changed as they should, i thought great the noise has gone but then i stop at traffic lights or junctions and then drive on the noise comes back, its like a skid sound and it sounds like its coming from the back
Very odd

Could it be the wheel bearings?
If it was the gearbox surely that noise would be there constantly wouldnt it??

not necerssarily,... but if it'c coming from the back, it's pretty much all it could be,.. check your brake shoe linings haven't come off!

Aha,some hope!
My partner has just checked the front wheel and it sounds like the wheel bearings have come out of the driveshaft do you think this might be the reason for the skidding noise??

If you're wheel bearings are hangin off chnge them straight away, it's very dangerous to drive the car...
