Hi all just wondering if anyone knows if i have to use coilovers on a rear beam axle or if i can just use decent shocks, the mini will be used on the road only and i have no idea about these axles but i can get hold of one and it means i don't have to waste time cleaning up my old subby. Any input will be greatly received.

I'll take this chance to post twice as I'm slightly obsessed by the post counter and my 'new driver' status

Beam axles save weight because they get rid of the rubber cones and all the steel used to mount them. With no springs anymore you need the coilovers. They aren't beam axles in the regular sense, its a subframe that runs between the front two mounts only that you mount standard radius arms from.

As far as I can see they also save weight by removing any crash protection from the rear of the car...anyone been rear ended with a beam axle?! fuel everywhere?!
