Hi All,

I am currently rebuilding my front sub frame and front suspension.
My question is how do you go about removing the roller bearings in the upper suspension arms? I thought it may have been the same as the rear radius arms "drifting them out from the other end with a long piece of round steel". But on trying this there does not seem a large enough lip to get a decent whack with the steel rod. So if any of you have carried this out can you help us out and tell us the technique!

Cheers

have you tried calapsing it in on its self. put the arm in a vice and with a punch push the bearing in on its self until it falls out. i have done this in the past with other kinds of bearings, or you might just need a smaller angled punch to drift it out.

YEA that did work for me, kind of - after taking out the roller bits first. Alternatively if you have a small grinder on a dremel you can cut through one side of the bearing casing (again remove the needle roller bits) then when you are through it may drop out or you can wack it and it will collapse in on itself. Have done that on 4 upper arms and has worked well for me.

I did mine earlier this year and used a long piece of copper about 8mm OD (atleast it was coppery coloured and was lying about in my garage...)...was difficult at first but after a while it deformed into the right shape and i could start whacking it. Can't remember it being too easy mind so maybe one of the other suggested way will be better...

Blind bearing puller...

Weld a bolt into it and pull it...

Or use the special tool like me!

There is another method which uses two halves of a head nut which is lodged in behind the bearing and then using a drift to punch it out...

best option tho' is to use (or find someone) with a bearing puller or slide hammer puller.
