Yes,
Cheaper, C**p no.
You can pull the engine out in a weekend or so (you'll want to leave yourself a few more days if it's you daily driver) a day if you really get stuck in. I got mine out in a day but I made a bit of a hash of it.
One the engines out all you need is a set of spanner and a gasket set. Pull the flywheel cover off, take flywheel off (puller required), undo the studs and bolts behind flyhweel, take off drop housing, then the oil pump is there. 3 bolts and it's off.
Might want to put a new clutch in while your there. One of those "might as well" jobs.

You've also got to consider why you want a new pump low oil pressure is likely to be a combination of several things which may or not include the pump.
Ooow, good point Ethel.

basically the oil pressure light used to stay on and go off with a quick rev then over time it was on longer and longer and longer till about 4000rpm so i thought right no more and took it out.
i cleaned out the pressure release valve and i also took the head off to see if it was a gasket failure but it wasnt i changed the head for another one and put new gasket in and it was the same.
i can only think its the oil pump or the big ends wore down for some reason to lose the pressure. i toasted my last mini like this i presumed that was the oil pump. I drove that about 25 miles with the oil light on didnt want to stop as it was thundering and raining and i just thought sod it it seized up on my drive which was lucky

easier than taking the dirty dribbly mini engine apart
The mini engine is as simple as pie and chips! How would fitting a more complex (therfore silly) engine help? It's one part.
*grumbles alot*
*grumbles about silly modern cars with injectors and part that work via witch craft and magic*

A mini engine really doesn't have that many part. The gearbox is the most complex bit and for that you have a few good forum followers who can sort them out. The engine itself is easy to work with.
