deffo not normal for any mini- perhaps the previous owner made it to mounts spots or something?

lol funny you say that under the engine bay was one of those towing asdaptors you need for a trailor, it put on very well though. x

As in a plug/socket? Is it wired into the rear lights?

My guess is the previous owner rigged it up so he could tow his small mini behind his motorhome or similar.
