OK, as you all know, i was filming the lap when Di and I fell off the track. i have downloaded a file recovery programe called cardrecovery v3.50. it has found all 42 file on the disc which include the one that i presume was the one filimg at the time (but it shows up as 0kB) - its a .avi file but i have to buy the pasword to get the files.

does anyone have a password for it or can point in the direction of some freebie software that will allow me to view/save the files?

give that a go matey.. its freeware.

Description
Digital camera technology makes it easy to erase photos whenever you need. Unfortunately, it can also mean accidentally deleting images you want to keep or transfer. Some cameras can occasionally get confused and reset the card to show 'no images', even though the files are still there. If you act quickly, it is possible to recover lost photographs from most digital memory cards. Smart Recovery can also help reconstruct data files after a card has been formatted. All you do is download and install the program on the computer. Follow the simple steps and - fingers crossed - the photographs can be recovered.

Smart Recovery supports the following picture formats: .jpg, .tiff, .bmp, .gif, Canon .crw, Fuji .raf, Olympus .orf (E-XX), Olympus .orf (C5050), Kodak .dcr, Minolta .mrw, Nikon .nef (D1H/D1X), Nikon .nef (E5000/E5700), Sigma - Foveon .x3f. Plus Video files in .avi, QuickTime .mov format and audio files in .wav or .dss formats.

Most digital card formats are supported including Compact Flash, Smart Media, Memory stick, Secure Digital Card, Microdrive, Multimedia Card and Microsoft pocket. Since Smart Recovery only reads the card, you can try it on card types not listed here. As long as you have a card reader or camera that creates a 'logical drive', it should work. Smart Recovery is free (freeware), so it is worth downloading and keeping for emergencies.

althought im not sure it should be in the nurburgring threads =]

ive had no luck with the file myself, but ive only tried a few. the problem being that usually even if its corrupt and says 0kb the "size on disk" should stil show data.. but it doesnt. I've kept the file anyway just incase i have a brainwave. Hope you manage to recovered something....

I just found CardRecovery Pro as a torrent. I'll give that a go. If it works out I'll upload the installer for it to somewhere on the web where you'll be able to d/l

Right sent the proggy by email. I'm not that hopeful though. If the file is reporting as 0kb it indicates corruption. The best bet in this case is to use "file recovery by type" in WinHex. Anyone have WinHex?

There are quite a few file recovery progs out there. alas I don't have one that recognises sd cards etc.

As long as you don't write over them they'll still be on the card. I think the file rather than photo recover progs offer better value.
