I finally got sick of squinting into the glare of cars behind me and purchased a new mirror with a "Day/Night" switch... It glues to the glass, so I'll need to remove the stock mirror (the one with the suction cup). Problem is, I can't see or feel any fasteners, screws or bolts anywhere on the triangular mounting plate.

Can I remove the stalk from the triangular piece perhaps? Or are there fasteners up behind the head liner? I'd rather cut the mirror stalk off at the base and paint over the stump than try to pull the headliner and tear it or make it sag... What's the trick of removal?

Thanks in advance.

If it's the same as mine, the triangular piece you're looking at is a detachable cover that once lowered will reveal another triangular piece with three screws in it.

Ahhhhhhhh.... I see. Did you pry it off with a small screwdriver or can you remove it with fingertips? It looks all one piece at a glance.

Well, mine is very loose - it almost falls off if you touch it!

You should be able to see where the cover ends - I suppose a screwdriver should pop it off.

Assuming, of course, that we DO have the same type of mirror!

Good point - I have a 1992 Sprite. Seems to me that they didn't change many of the interior bits over the years though... I'll look for the cover tonight after work. Thanks!

All the interior mirrors on your year/model of car fit the same way - as atom says, there is a removable cover with screws under it. Once removed, you will have holes in the headliner where the screws go through it. A dimmable interior mirror was fitted to some models, so you may be better off getting hold of one of these so it fixes in the original holes - that's what I did.

Like atoms, the cap on my mirror basically just falls off when you touch it. It shouldn't warrent a screwdriver i don't think, just pull it downwards.
