They never usually gush oil through, when they start to go they contaminate the clutch, and that starts slipping, thats usually one of the first signs its gone

when you assembled the engine did you take care putting the flywheel housing on, you might have damaged the seal on the primary gear. normally a good idea to tape up the steps on the gear when assembling.
i take it there is oil coming out of the drain hole in the bottom of the flywheel housing

These seals only seep when they are worn, oil tends to pour out if they are fitted incorrectly, or there is any sort of miss alignment. Could also be that the Primary gear is fubar'd or incorrect end float????
Some people have problems getting these to seal first time, and they are doing everything right. I know a chap who replaced it three times, lol, and finaly got it sealed using some unknown brand, cheepo cheepo item from M&M's, rather than the proper Rover jobbies.

brand new straight cut primary gear from GW. Cheers for the advice tho sprocket, did get agressive with me either! lol. Straight cut, so it wouldnt have cracked the casing man. End float was to the wide side of the limits, but ok. Taking it to southam i think, dont think my dad wants to take it there because he was the one who put the primary seal in think hes a bit embarrased, but considering how he is treating me atm, i dont care for him atall.
