I'm looking into getting a beam axle conversion kit for the rear of my clubby. I was looking at the kit from huddersfield spares for £299 that included just about everything to do the job. I was told today by a friend that works at a specialist garage that these kits are not very strong and he has seen instance's where the mountings rip out of the body.

Has anyone any experiance in these kits?

what kits do people recommend?

I'm planning on going big on power so need handling and brakes to keep up with the future engine mods.

I have run the same rear beam for more than 4,000 miles with NO problems. Its not the best as you can not adjust rear camber. But I have no complaints

i've fitted a couple of rear beams over the years, and seen a lot of cars with them fitted, and i've never heard of one ripping its mounts out!.......if the mounts are ripped out, that implys to me that the car was rusty, and its not the beam failing!

the last one i fitted was to my mates hillclimb car, this one is filly adjustable, and can put up with the stresses and strains of supersoft 8" wide slicks!

Has ANYONE designed a multi link rear suspension to fit a mini rear end?
Or how about putting a front subframe in the back - think about it...

Any ideas?

There's been a few I can think of. A lot of circuit race Mini's and nearly all the spaceframe cars use a multi link rear suspension of one type or another. Does mean slicing the boot floor out though.
And pretty much all of the twin engined Mini's have done the conversion by putting a front subframe in the back AFAIK. There's also a rear engined Mini based kit car that uses a front subframe at the rear called a Freestyle. The hard part is locking up the swivels!

The easy part is locking the swivels.

I used an old rack, removed the casing and welded it to the frame. This meant I could adjust the rear track.

This was on a Mini engined (rear) buggy

main reasons,

1). twin engines
2). twin engines
3). twin engines...

you get the idea, and multi link - because it's better then trailing arms!

you can get a 4 link rear beam axle ( not a rear beam for trailing arms), but as dan said, you loose the use of your boot as you have 2 coilovers in there, and also its not particularly adjustable either.
