nitrous is very good for pound spent per bhp produced, plus if you have a nitrous perge it can look very flash, just bear in mind run the mix to rich you are just chucking unbernt nos out of your exhaust, run the mix to lean it will burn to hot and melt your pistons and cost lots of money to fix.

You need to make sure that your engine is built to take the power and torque your going to be throwing through it with NOS.

I think jammy was getting at things like strengthened rods, forged pistons, new centre strap for your crank etc. if your engine isnt strong enough it will just tear itself apart the first time you press that little red button :o

Theres always a progressive nitrous set up like they used in the mentalist MG SV.

personally i wouldnt touch a DIY kit with a bargepole. go to someone who knows N2O (not NOS, thats a brandname made famous by the gay and the gayer) like wizards of nos - http://www.noswizard.com/. at the very least have a rummage on their forum and ask your questions there, they are EXTREMELY helpful.

best to get it wired into a microswitch on the accelerator or carb too rather than having a switch so that its only activated on full throttle. least it can be set up properly then.

You don't need to worry about forged stuff and worked cranks if your only sticking another 25 through the engine! But just think of things logically, you wouldn't try and create an engine with over 100bhp on standard internals! You'd at least uprate the clutch and gearbox (diff) a touch!

To be honest, with a 998 you probably wouldn't need to change that much, especially with just an extra 25bhp going through it, unless you were planning on shooting it all through at the redline! To be honest if you want speed then I don't think NOS is the way to go. It has its uses on the drag strip, but the NOS is soon used up and your back to a slow 998! Plus i doubt your insurance company will touch you with a kit installed.

But NeilG is right, go to specialists like was.

also one thing with nos as well is that you will only get full power when your tank is full as when the pressure from the tank drops so will the pressure going into your engine, to prevent this you need an on board nitrous heater which will keep the pressure in your tank up!

another thing is that nitrous is only activated on full throtle, so if your foot is 95% of the way down it will not be delivered.

All depends how you have it set up I believe. I think you can either have it progressive or set as a shot whenever you press a button, or just on what, but I could be wrong..

if you're serious about fitting a N2O kit onto a mini, go for a Wizards of Nos kit, especially if its youre first go. its easy to fit, Adrian Flux MAY insure you on it (they did for me, on a NOS version, but its fapping expensive, so i removed the kit and sold it). You will need an electric pump like a facet redtop to deliver the extra fuel for the injector nozzle, as the mechanical pump can't deliver the pressure required. the carb is completely separate and nothing needs to be touched on it at all. most people fit the injector nozzle in the spacer plate between carb and manifold as its the easiest place. you can mess about with direct port nitrous injection but on a mini it just makes things harder to get right. on my setup i injected before the carb, i used a NOS annular fogger nozzle aimed straight down the carb barrel. that was an extra 50hp on a 1380 which to be honest was silly (but immense fun). If you click the link, you can see the setup on my boss' modified 1200cc bandit, that is pushing around 280bhp at the back wheel. LINK.
if you look under the 4 carbs, you'll see where the 4 NOS powerfogger nozzles are mounted, the braided hoses with the red unions are for fuel, these run under the seat to a 4 way splitter, then connects to the solenoid which contains the jets, then a facet redtop connects to that. the blue unions run the nitrous oxide, which again run to a 4 way splitter, then the solenoid with suitable jets, then the bottle.
