You could always put the entire Maestro engine in your mini, would solve any potential compatability problems :o

You'd have to - you couldn't screw the maestro clutch on to the Mini crank. For all the work involved you may as well choose a better engine.

not really worth doing a maestro engine swap with the other current options on the market.

orver honda vauxhall suzuki etc etc probably cheapest to do a suzuki or vaux swap. have a look at Purple Tom's vaux engined clubby or Pandoras Suzuki engined one. or ed4rans for a RWD suzuki

There was, and it was a maestro block, but it was a Mini 5 speed box, not the Maestro gearbox attached. It appeared in a mag, probably about a year ago.. and raised the same question... the owner actually popped on to TMF and confirmed the above.

The maestro/montego 1.3 is an A series, but the gearbox is side mounted... this has been fitted to a mini, but you'll also notice that the engine is rotated by 180 degrees, so the carb is positioned at the front and normal ancillaries at the rear...

Probably easier, to do a 1.4 K series conversion.

Nothing wrong the the maestro/montego block/head however, and because they are the wrong way round, they resited the oil filter up onto the block twin point stylee... makes for a good mini engine

Simple solution.

Put the engine in the back. RWD! WOO!
