Dont let MagicMini see your grammar :P

As regards the engine, is it a standard 998??? I have a stage 1 kit on my 998 which has no problems with motorway runs at all... mine lives on the motorway, and I have no problems...

As regards power, I'd say that you can get about 70bhp out of a fully tuned 998 if you spend enough.

an MG metro 1275 lump has about 70bhp standard.

all depends on whether you want to go for cheap to run and cheap to insure etc, or fast???

If you want to get to a fast 0-60 time put a 4.1 final drive in the gearbox. JetBLICK has one in his 998 and its rapid.

Have a search in the gearbox section there should be an explaination about final drives etc.

Depends what 'fully tuned' is though

If you spend enough you can get it into the 100bhp kinda area,.. and there's loads power left accessible with the 8V BMW head conversion,...... but as usual, it's all dependant on money, time, and value...

Good god man why don't you do what this kind gentlemen has suggested, Free engine!! and stage3?... take it that's the head,... Sounds like the ideal time to rebuild the engine and learn from it at the same time!

You'l be needing a torque wrench and some imperial sockets :-

:- take the free engine! A stage 3 1275 will be pretty dam quick compared to your 998. If you can afford to insure it then what have you got to lose? Its free!

What's the sort of insurance hit for a stage 3 1275? Obviously it's going to differ form person to person, but you don't generally hear what people pay for their insurance..

It'd depends entirely on the person. Age and no claims bonus are the biggest factors. We'll have to wait for someone with a similar engine to that to see how much they pay...
