mines a 95, but its a carb 5.5gal tank with the overflow pipe on top unlike the sealed tanks of late....

As Dan said, the only tanks that were made that will fit in the salloon were the 5.5 gallon tank or the 7.5 gallon tank. There is NO 20 litre tank. Some space in the tank is taken up by the fuel pump in the later MPi tanks, and you can't utilise some of the space at the top of the salloon tanks because the filler neck is lower than the top of the tank, but, if you completely filled one of the later salloon tanks up, it would take 33 litres!

Also to note, that Cooper S Mk III spec of 50 litres is because they have two tanks.

Why did you fit one of those? After more boot space? They're really quite hard to find, I'd have thought a 7.5 gallon carb tank would have been much easier to track down since they're still available new. I'm assuming you've fitted a carb engine.
