1. Offside Front Wheel Insecure
2. Exhaust emissions Excessive
3. And also there is inadequate clearence between the bump stop so i am going to fit hilo's is there anyway to do it without a cone compression tool

Ooooh kay,

1) That's an obvious one, but tighten the wheel up (unless there's another problem somewhere).
2) Hmmm, this one could be interesting, do you have the details of how it failed? There should be a level of CO (in %) and HC and (in PPM).
3) You'll need a cone compressor for this one I'm afraid, someone local to you may be able to lend one out though.

Hi

1. Offside Front Wheel Insecure - Check you have 4 wheel nuts /studs and the nuts arec correct for the wheels as different alloys/steel wheels need different profiles on the 'seat' on the nut

2. Exhaust emissions Excessive - to be honest the garage is probably best placed to adjust this as they have the gas analysis equipment, adjustments will need to be done to the carb

3. And also there is inadequate clearence between the bump stop so i am going to fit hilo's is there anyway to do it without a cone compression tool - I'm assuming the front here as you mention the bump stop. The reason there is inadequate clearance is that the rubber cone has probably collapsed, fitting hi lows is only getting around the problem, you really need a compression tool £30 at most to buy (without actually checking) If the cone has collapsed you may be able to remove it by removing the top suspension arm but I cant remember if you can fit a new cone with out the compression tool

cheers

As Udo says, when you fit Hi-los (get genuine ones!) fit new doughtnuts (which is the actual cause of the front sitting too low) and fit new knuckle cups, you'll also need some LM grease.

Also for your Emissions problem, make sure the garage is using the correct requirements... carb'd mini's are subject to the pre-1992 emissions rules, I think thats 3.5% CO, 1200ppm HC Post your figures up if you've got them.

Mixture then, get it turned down for the MOT. Also, get the needle sorted changing the mixture ruins the way it drives.

For a 1994, carb equipped mini, it'll need to be less than 3.5% CO2 and less than 1200ppm, but testers get confused about this as they expect them to have a carb on them, being a post August '92 car. There is apparently an ammendment to the MOT manual that covers this subject.

Thanks very much for all your help i have found that unity motor spares in byfleet rent out the cone compression tool for £3.50 for 48 hours with a twenty pound deposit i am going to just turn down the mixture for the re test then probably get it rolling roaded soon after. Am i right in thinking on my carb there is a mixture screw on the left of it
