This is quite a wierd question and I'm sure It's something simple!
A while a go the mrs had a leaking radiator pipe in her 205 and after replacing it I noticed that there was a 'lump' of rusty orangey coloured gooey something in the coolant overflow tank. Then a couple of days ago i checked mine to see if the water level was ok and the water in mine looks the same colour!
Is it something that people put in there? Some sort of coolant?

 :)

Thanks in advance.

To put it simply, the blocks rusting.

Mini's do it as the block is basically a lump of iron so it rusts. Using the right mix of anti-freeze help but it's nothing to be worried about the rusting I mean, you'll want to flush the coolant system out.

Take the bottom rad house off and dump the hose down it. Then when the water runs clear out the rad put the bottom pipe back on and fill the rad from the hose. Run to temp then drop the water. Keep doing that till it runs clear....or clearer. Then top the lot up with deionized and anti-freeze.

Ok thats good then! So what does it do?

Clears the C**p out. Might even drop the engine temps a bit if they've been getting a little high.

Also, used distilled water when you fill the radiator back up!

A mix of nasty gooey rust and crud,.....

Also at some point it may well have had some 'Bar leaks' or a simliar agent introduced to the system,... basically a liquid you pour in that coagulates aruond any small splits in your radiator etc and stops the leak.

It is, however,... a bodge.

LOL, just been watching Mythbusters. They were trying to kill a V8 small block with any means that is commonly suggested, so while they were at it the checked out the Egg in the rad to stop leak theory. LMFAO, it worked astonishingly well, and real fast too. I was well surprised as were they.
