I've found this link, and was wondering wether anyone would try head porting themselves or not?
It looks quite thorough and i could practice first but would anyone recommend it??

If you are going to try it yourself, get Vizard's big yellow book - Tuning the A series engine - as it'll give you all the shapes & tell you where the water jackets and so on are so you have less chance of grinding through them.

Gonna need a decent grinder to do A series cast iron heads. No reason why you shouldn't though, shame they're a bit of a rarity now or getting some practice would be a doddle.

I have two 998 heads to practice on before i do my 1275, I have also got access to air tools to do the ports.
Have you done any yourself?

Once chewed a few lumps out of an ally O series head, doubt that it counts though - even if it was fairly effective.

Porting the inlets 'n outlets isn't going to be over critical. But getting the chambers to the right CR would take some effort and there'd still be things like valve seats and guides to do.

Well i've just had the head reconned but was looking to do the inlet and outlet ports myself. I wouldn't touch the chambers as they're big enough already.
What pieces would you recommend using in the grinder?
