Just wanted to know if anyone could recommend one or the other from experiance?

Is the back end too light when front mounted?

I have plenty of know how to do both myself and am a qulifyed engineer.

Any help would be great.

Dave

The main advantage of midrwd is weight distribution and when you accelerate weight shifts to the rear which is best as that's where you want traction.

zcars dont do a front mounted RWD do they????

if you want rwd then stick the engine in the back... unless its a V8.

They have done a front mounted rwd R1 mini a few years ago, it was the first or second mini they done I believe, I'm not aware of it being available as a kit though, but I'm sure Chris will do one

Chris doesnt believe in FWD bike powered minis so wil lbe sticking to RWD, but my mate Darren owns Pro-Motive who sells the FWD kits. He has no problems with handling with his kits and Supermotorlee has one of his kits so we will be able to back me up on this I would say

Chris doesn't like fwd fullstop in any car any engine!! But I would put a little wager on an equivalent rwd mini and fwd mini, same bike engine, same gearing, both setup well, the fwd version being 9 times out 10 quicker round Castle Combe for instance. Obviously you won't beat it of the line, but that only counts for a few seconds of a race and is not relevant on track days

As for front engined rwd not sure, my first reaction would be to think the rear would be to light, but I don't know that

Cheers
David

the guys not realy asked about which wheels are driven though, it depends on the kind of car you want both have been done i'd say front mounted might quieter and more civilised but i'd go mid mounted as its tried and tested z cars work!

and as far as fwd v rwd lets hope theres a few z cars at castle combe to show that minis were supposed to be fwd haha

OK Porsche as we all know are just a bit odd with their engine position :gimme: and Audi tend to specialise in AWD not RWD so not really applicable. :P

I can go on, how about Pagani, Konigsegg, Noble, in fact most racing cars F1 style etc etc?? I feel sure that if having the engine up front was always better then most of the top end race cars would be that way rather than this weird mid mounted carry on ;) :P

Oh and while I think about it doesn't Porsches flagship model have a mid mounted RWD setup ;) :P

Mid mounted is hot, noisy and you loose two seats but would a racer want anything else?

Polar moment of inertia, handling, traction and centre of gravity will always make it the best layout...in my opinion :gimme:

Errm unless I'm going mental (it has been known) the title asks about front mounted REAR WHEEL DRIVE or mid mounted REAR WHEEL DRIVE. Did i miss anything? :P

No mention of any other driven wheel options :gimme:

I know i know i'm being picky but
