Ok well heres my story! It all started when a friend of mine gave me a free mini to use as my first car, so as you can imagine it din't take long before we had stripped it and built it up, buckets, cage, lowered, wellers, the usual, looked really good! so as you can imagine i was gutted when it died, unfortunately lack of money and time meant it sat for a while rusting away!! So after driving my mums clio for a while, nice car but not the same!! i craved for another mini, enter Dylan my new project - austin mini city 998 automatic bought for £375, had the biggest smile on my face when i picked it up, drove it halfway home and the gearbox decided to die on me, so that soon wiped the smile off my face, after towing it home, what a mission that was, i decided i would find a suitable engine and box and swop them over, well things have changed a little bit, as i have just been given a Metro Gti for FREE! yes FREE! so now the plan is to somehow use this as a donor car and get my little City up and running! i Know its gonna be a mission as i'm doing all the work on my drive but i like challenges!! Pics to follow, does anyone know how to make the pics smaller as they are too big in KB to upload,

Awww, suhc a sad story but at least it has a hapyp ending .

Sounds like its going to be a beast, did you manage to savlage the buckets and that from the old car?

What size engine is the Metro Gti? 1.4 I'm guessing.

Sad story, with a slightly happier ending.. but before you get too happy, you do realise that the K series metro engine will not be a straight swap, there will be the requirement to manufacture subframes etc... in fact, anything other than an auto A series will require a change of subframe.

Went and picked up the car at lunch and found its a GTA not a Gti but i'm not complaining, it drove really well, too much rust to keep the car, but engine wise it drives nice, nippy which is nice!!!

blackout - well my friend took back the buckets but i have kept the cage which sits nicely in the car at moment, till i get round to finishing it off.

Guessworks - i am aware there is quite a lot of modifying to get it to fit but i fancy a challenge!! hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult, but i suppose i will find out how much is involved this weekend!!

Jammy basturd - i have friends in the car trade, but if i come across anything i'll let you know

U think you need to modify the bulkhead, the gear linkage tunnel, the floor area / footwells which go up to bulkhead and maybe some other things to fit a K series into a mini.

Not mentioning subframes, engine mounts, fuel lines, driveshafts and brakes which all have to be worked around or made.

You sure do seem to like a challange. Sounds like a cool project. And not to put you down or anything. But why? Why go through all that trouble and still have a 1.4? Sure the engine works, but why not get an A series engine and just drop it in? If you want that extra bit of power you could always tune it a bit. Just think you are going to do a whole lot of work for just a little gain.

Sounds like a real challange though and if you want to do it, by all means do. Can't wait to see some proces pics.

you dont want that K-Series C**p, allways a flawed engine, twin cams such as you ur 1.4 are common to have head gasket trouble, gaskets go as early as 40,000 miles on a 5 year old car!!! Its all to do with the ultra-thin water jackets to keep the unit compact which relly f**ks it up. I aggree with MiniMoi get an A-Series and tune it, graduly work on it maybe get it to 1380cc with a KAD twin cam when u can afford to do so or use a Scrap MG Metro's A-Series.

PS. how can i add a pic under my name to the left hand side.

eh? K series is a quality engine. My mother has never had headgasget problems with her Rover 214, and it's well nippy.

10x more reliable then the A-series!

hmmmmm..... fingers crossed. I thought they were a 1.4 K-series...

the bogo MG Metro is an A-series, (as is the Turbo), but unsure whether the bogo one was the GTA or not.... hmmm....

Ebay has them as 1275cc, so that'd suggest ur right... ramble, ramble, ramble... lol

does anyone know how to make the pics smaller as they are too big in KB to upload.

Open them, then save them as a jpg. If they're too big they are probably bitmaps (bmp).
