Ive secured a 998 engine and am collecting at weekend. My question is will it be ok in one of those metal halfords trailers or will it be to heavy?
what about in the back of an estate car? will it even fit?

any advice appreciated

theyre F@#*!?= heavy (with full oil in), but me and my dad could manage without too much troublt, but we did have the subframe and wheels and gearbox still attached lol. as for if it will fit in a trailer or an estate car i have no idea sorry

I and a mate lifted a 998 easy even with half oil in. (not ideal)

Two people that aren't frail and weedy should be able to lift it

I 'think' I heard somewhere... that a dry (with no fluids in) engine should be around the 110 kilogram mark.

Weighs about 150lbs I seem to remember so about 75Kg depending on the stuff that's still on it. 2 strong blokes (not being sexist) can normally pick it up with a bit of a struggle. Getting it in a trailer will be easier than getting it into the back of a car.

i think the lifting will be ok as hubby is like a small ox... but what about transportation?

And lo and behold, the first post it bought up had the answer

Complete engine is about 130kg's

Gearbox is 28kg's built
head's are about 20kg's
built blocks are circa 50kgs

tried earlier and got nothing, just bought up new posts, so thanks for that, still need to know if it will go in a trailer or car... or will it be to heavy?

130kg sounds likely as a complete car is around 650kg

I'd have thought a head was less than 20kg but a block was more than 50kg cetainly if built up.

it'll be around the 20 stone mark so if your car is happy with a fat knacker on the back seat it should be fine

I know hubby used to lug his old gsxr 1100 engine in and out the frame, that was about 110kgs and he managed fine.
WILL THE TRAILER BE OK?

i can lift the engine about an inch off the ground on my own but to lift it in to a car i need another person but then i only weight 135lb's about 60kg's. Two people should be fine to lift an engine with relitive ease.

No problems then and yep the trailer will be fine, just make sure its tie down properly though
