as a first time mini buyer what model, age type bla bla of mini should i be looking at. PS i have no knowledge of min's at all but i just love them so that my reasoning for buying one. thanks

how much do you have to spend? are you mechanically minded, or would be interested in learning?

2.5 k to spend... not very negotiable >_< but could push to like 2.8 or whatever. I'm C**p at maintenance and things like that soo don't really want to get involved in that at all.. so as little maintenance as possible. i suppose a later year mini would be best then?

cheers

the tidiest one you can find is best, although all the later ones ('84 on) have disc brakes so thats a bit less maintnance, and better stopping power as well. Theres always maintenance to do, regardless of what you buy, like regular oil changes (every 6000 miles is best) and greasing up all the greasy bits every now and then.

£2500 should get something very tidy, and possibly something restored, my tip is dont buy the first one you see, always have a look at a few others and compare them. Buy the one with the best bodywork, check underneath etc as it may look nice outside, but could be a rotter underneath (the mystery machine is like this, its needing new floors before next year).

above all, have fun with whatever you buy, and there are bargains to be had, i picked up a restored mk3 mini, with an avonbar 1293 engine and cooper s discs with minilites. £500!

thanks for your respone mate, out of interest how much is it to insure a mini cooper like your... for a newly passed driver?? justr roughly?

o and where else should i be looking to buy from other than on forums like these-autotrader, ebay. ...... mini magazine? and....

thanks
