Do you think its possible to have a removable bonnet without welding any brackets for pins?

What im thinking is having two straps riveted to the rear on the bonnet and riveted to the scuttle panel (one on each side)

And then another two at the front of the bonnet?

How are these leather straps attached to the front grille usually? can anyone help.

All ideas welcome.

you can get quick release hinges, that mean you can use it hinged, but remove and refit quite easily,

Now that I can't remember, minispares, minisport, Moss, one of them, google it?

Quick search, they look like this... Just need to find somewhere in the UK, then you could pin or strap the front?

Found them in a few places, only do for mk3s though. Mine is a 93 mini any ideas if that would fit?

Also are they just straight swaps for the orignal hinges? no mods needed?

mk3 should fit, as mk3 onwards were very similar with only minor changes.

These hinges will fit your car

You may need to file the corner off the hinge itself where the spring steel clip slides over. Its self explanatory once you have them fitted. Fitting them however is the difficult part, there just isnt enough room to get a pair of hands un the the scuttle to tighten up the bolts

You need a girlfriend with little hands - they do have their uses, finding things, holding things, passing tools, making tea... :D)

You can fit the braclets for pins without any welding. Once you've got the triangle piece made up you can just pop rivet them on

If it's access to the engine bay you seek by removing your bonnet, I'd highly recommend minivation hinges.
They allow you to put your bonnet vertical. I can take my engine out without removing the bonnet. Makes any job in the engine bay much nicer.

I'm cheap so welded nuts to my hinges and use a bit of m6 stud with a wing nut welded on the end, 2 mins and the bonnets unbolted

Pain in the arse if you just need to check something quick on the side of the road though. Plus you need to place your bonnet somewhere without it getting damaged.
