there is no reason to be complacent just because the majority of people havent had a break in... doesnt mean to say you wont. touch wood

I had a Cobra immobiliser fitted when I bought the car because the insurer Adrian Flux made it a condition. The seller and I split the costs £50 each. The ignition won't turn on until you put a key in a slot beside the ignition switch, and then you have 45 seconds to start the car. I hope it might delay someone trying to drive the car away. I think audible alarms these days are almost totally ignored and a waste of time. What with the pick-up's open back with just a tonneau cover, plus sliding windows and feeble door locks, I'm just hoping for the best. :erm:

i heard my alarm going off one night and saw about 4 youths round my car - ran to it and saw a coat hanger down my door. by the time i managed 2 get 2 my car my door had just been opened. didnt catch any of them but it has saved my mini! Get One!

Ive been thinking about tinting all my windows (except the windscreen) and puting a blue sunstrip (call me a chav) along the front windscreen. That way they cant see in any of the windows, AND with a sunstrip across the top of the front means that nobody can get at the right angle to see at your dashboard
Yeh I know front door window tints are illigal but what the hell! Round my way, unless your being a tw*t, the police dont give a toss really!

Jesus, a sunstrip would cover most of a minis windscreen!! And besides, if you tint most of your car, aren't you just suggesting that theres something to hide?!

sunstrips are illegal

you are allowed a sunstrip aslong as the top of the window wipers dont touch it. which virtually means you cant have one on a mini

At this point I don't think Binge is worried about the legality of things!

I would think tinting your windows would be a bad thing. We have a Peugeot with tinted windows that always gets broken into. It's a SW so it has the black rear screen and it always gets smashed while there isn't even anything in the trunk. None of the other cars get broken into because they can clearly see there is nothing to take. Just make sure you don't leave anything valueable in your car. We had a laptop in our car once. Put it in a friends driveway while getting some stuff and it we heard a smash and ran back and it was gone. Why they smashed it I don't have a clue. I even let the car unlocked.
Just to show that people rarely break into cars to actually steal them. Most of the time it is just for that awesome stereo that people have forgoten to take out. Or that cell phone that is still in the car kit.
