So.....getting new mini in a few days, a 97 mint mini "classic" basically a cooper without spots and stripes.and aready thinking of upgrading the crappy casette player, I need good sounds in the car having good stuff at home. I have always been helped well on hear so here goes.....I only have a budget... I know thats C**p but the cd in my part exchange car had to be left in the.
I have a budget of £150 lol, I am a poor registered nurse who has bought a mini so would like the cost low (tp keep the wife off my back)
I am new to all this stuff everyone seems to say Alpine are the dogs *man danglies* but are they not like other companies that produce good pricy stuff and have cheaper gera thats C**p.
I am planing to replace the factory fit speakers with 6x9" on the rear shelves. Is that a good place. I understnd a lot of cutting will be aquired?
I would like an aux in so I can play my 20GB hard disc player by pluging into a 3.5mm female (IN) jack. Are these available. Dont fancy any sub unless it could be a chaepy under that back seats. Do rear speackers give enough sound from front passnenger.
I have found this http://cgi.ebay.co.u...5751005953&rd=1
and these http://cgi.ebay.co.u...5750237108&rd=1

or this http://www.caraudiod...roducts_id=3846 I am really stuck I do not play heavy, sub bass dance music but do like good qulaity sound and my taste are many things in the rock genre from pink floyd, dream theater, white stripes and any prog rock....
Thanks for your help

yeah there are the 3.5mm jack to phono leads available, they are about a fiver from your local maplines, as for aux input you'll be looking at kenwoods, the only alpines that have an input are the 300 quid units and the screens, pioneer also do aux inputs but only on the higher end units as well.

the alpine youve shown on your link is a nice radio/cd/mp3 but it doesnt have AUX as u specified

avoid that daewoo if i were you, its cheap...and you get what you pay for, the infinity 6x9s are very good for the price and well up to the job in a mini

for cutting the hole in your parcel shelf i would use a hacksaw blade or a dremel with circular cutter, it'll take a while but its worth it, and mount your 6x9s on some reasonably thick mdf so you dont have alot of panel vibration

hope thats of some guidance

i agree with what madmax has said. the downside with the alpine is the no aux input but ive been told you can get inputs put into them, this right? but why not burn ur mp3's onto disks, wont take up that many and alpine is the dogs as said

Thanks for the advice,
How do you mount the 6x9 on MDF? do you mean on a board and if so placing the board on top or under the shelf

As for MP3 cd I have loads of them, But on my 20GB hard disk player has all my music on and it goes everywhere with me. Itr would be so easy to just built a playlist and enjoy the sounds on long trips.
Can Anyone recomend a specific head that they have heard or own and I feel theremust be a lot of BS in marketing this kind of stuff. I used to have an in car Sony CD but the sound was not brilliant more like a cheap capppy stereo.
Is there any advantake in attaching an amp. I have seen amps cheep as chips some much be worse than the origional amp in the head.
Never mind I will get there.

to mount the 6x9's onto an mdf shelf you must first:

cut an mdf panel the same shape as the parcel shelf (as to fit snugly on top of the metal shelf, mount the 6x9's in that in the normal way, then cut large enough holes in the metal shelf so the magnets are clear. then simply wire em up

my personal opinion is that i dont like it. you wont find many people who have one, its a rare overseas model, it seems reasonable for the money but i wouldnt buy it, but thats just me.

I've had one of these for about 6 months now and its an excellent head unit and despite the website saying it has no auxilary input mine certainly has.

jvc's arent that bad (reliability wise afaik), most people buy them because theyre cheap and cheerful, 50w peak per channel amplifiers are quite rare on low end units like these. a good bet
