My engine bay currently looks like alot of 998 bays - grotty.

Sorting it out is the next thing i want to do on my car. But where the hell do i start?

The block needs painting but what colour?
Will a red block with blue HT leads/Hoses look right?
Where can i get aluminium paint? I'v seen somebody use that before on clutch cover/alternator and it looked great!
What sorty of prep do i need to give the block to get a good finish?

take it out the engine bay first, will always make it an easier job, and a lot better looking ( also means you can tify up the bay while it's out. )

ahhh forgot to add that, i won't be taking it out. Its not a concours car so i don't think its worth that sort of effort. I'v seen some results of people doing it with the engine in and it looked fine to me.

I just want it to e sorted out abit really.

my 998 block was disgusting... it now looks like... sadly though ive bought a 1275 to go in so my efforts were rather wasted....

I think a glossy black block always looks good, and doesn't show up any oil leaks as badly as red or the original mustard yellow colour!

I'v already bought the paint for the block. I'm thinking about getting some of these hose covers mainly for the bulkhead wiring and heater hoses:

Link

Item 190164087920 if that doesn't work. You seem to get loads for your money, probably enough to do 2 or 3 mins!

Also anybody know where i can get the little chrome caps for the fusebox? I'v seen them on a few cars, especially concours cars. I was thinking of getting a new fusebox, a clear cap one for blade fuses like this:

Link

item: 120173656299 if that doesn't work. I reckon they look much better, but can't be fussed with drilling new holes in the bulkhead to fit it.

Also whats he best way of cleaning the fan? I think the fan will comes up like new with a bit of scrubbing but whats best to use?

i reckon cellulose thinners would clean up the fan, just pour a bit on a rag and wipe.

Another thing, what the hell is the loose fitting pipe that goes from the carb to the crankcase?

Its so loose fitting it can't be that important?

I guess its just a breather or something right?

Yeah that looks great. Love the look of all the parts in silver! I think i'm just going to zip tie all the loom up and maybe wrap some coloured tape round in places and try and tuck it under the scuttle. I'm going to put new washer tubing in too because the stuff in there now is black!

I reckon i'm just going to leave those hose cover sets i linked to before and go for the real deal with some nice blue silicon hoses. This engine bays colour scheme changed my mind:

I'v just bought a chrome fusebox cover, rocker cover/rocker cover badge and a sports coil and i'v lready got the gunk degreaser and paints that i need. Any other stuff i'll need i'll just get from the nearest DIY shop
