Ladies and Gentlemen.

I apologise for asking a seemingly simple question, there might be a very simple answer from somebody in the know.

the injection minis confuse me!

the engine is COMPLETELY standard. its a N reg SPI

whilst changing the clutch, i pulled the air filter off, i carefully removed the sensor electical wire from the underside of the air filter box.

coming from the the air filter box is a additional red tube (like the vacuum advance hose on a standard carb mini), this has like a 90degree end on it, that is meant to plug onto somewhere i assume on the inlet somewhere, but I cannot find for the life of me where I unplugged it from.

could somebody please explain, no.1 where im meant to plug it in, and no.2 what its for?

hope ive explained myself clear enough

any help will be much appreciated

matt

Hi Kingcreaky i cannot take a photo because of the location you would not see anything useful but if you take the filter houseing off you should see two metal hoses running horizontal across the throtal body now comes the difficult part about t inches below the horizontal pipes right at the back is the nipple that the lead connects onto. From memory it is a &*^$ to get the lead on because of the location. sorry for not being more help but i don't get chance to mess with the Mini much.

Hiya guys. I too have this exact same problem. Not sure if its doing my car any harm but want it corrected.

The hose goes from my filter to nowhere. Please please please can some one either take a photo or mock up a quick diagram as to where it goes? I think my elbow end has snapped off, so i've been looking for that attached with no tube but no success. I'm not good at relating words to parts under my bonnet either.

Can anyone get hold of a photo of where it goes and also can someone please tell me the possible side effects of not having it attached? Recently when i've put my foot down the car seems to decelerate for a split second then pick up a little. Not sure if this is related though.

Hi,
The hose/pipe connects from the back side of the intake manifold, next to the connection for the MAP sensor and fuel trap. From there it goes to the underside of the filter box to the Thermac valve (it is blue and has the letters AC on the top side). There is another piece from there to a flapper valve (air temperature control valve) on the inlet of the filter box. When the engine is cold the flapper closes and allows warm air from the stove around the exhaust manifold to get in to the airbox. Once the engine warms up the Thermac valve opens the flapper and allows ambient air into the air box. These pipes must be in good shape or you will have vacuum leaks causing the idle speed to go up plus it will cause other additional annoyances.

Hope that helps,

Ivan

PS
In order to get to the port on the back side of the intake manifold, you can only fit a finger or two between the bulkhead and the intake manifold. You might be able to see a bit of the ports looking along the bulkhead from the right (driver) side of the car. Obviously filter box must be off.
