i going to get a 1380 road engine. which do you think is better, swiftune or morspeed? swiftune says it will cost about 5000gbp for a complete engine. is this reasonable?

Well Swiftune are being very picky at the moment about building road engines, and Morspeed can have long lead times. Both will be able to build you a top notch engine though.

That £5000 is completely irrelevant unless you tell us what your getting for that money.

Swiftune engine is by far the better engine, hence the price. It's built, set up and run in, all you do is fit it. Dont forget that this is 'complete' IE it comes with the carb as well

the swiftune unit it essentially a ready to use properly engine. because they run it in for you they can usually identify any problems before it ends up in your car. i dont think there is any other engine builder that does that for you.

Well, the only question you need to ask yourself, is how long do u want to wait, and what cam do you want...

MSPD, do build good engines, spesh if your on a budget, whereas Swiftune, build excelant engines too.

I personally, would go Swiftune, but, £5 thats quite alot of mooolaaa... thought about building a 1380 yourself?

Its really easier than people think, get a copy of "Ultimate Mini, 1380 engine builder". You'll see how it goes together, and how easy it is. I've just built my 1380 to a simuar spec to the Swiftune eninge you've quoted, but with twin carbs, on decent manifolds, in the car, ready to rock, for £3000....

Have you tried ringing MED or Slark?
Slark are VERY good at what they do.

otherwise do what dog said, build your own. buy a kit from an engine supplier and add fancy bits to your taste.

There is no comparison! Swifty every time. I will not go to anyone else, I get on with Nick, Phil and all down there. It doesnt matter what the price is as quality, dyno results and sheer speed will always be far superior than any other.

i on the other hand wouldn't give swiftune one penny of my hard earned, sure they make great engines, but some years ago i had a breif encounter with Nick swift, and came away with the distinct impression he was a cocky self righteous git.
he wouldn't recall the breif conversition , but i surely did,
these are my personnel experiences and should not influence anyones thoughts,

I can understand that Carl, he is a bit like that.
Gavin had a MED head on his Speedster (full race spec as you would guess), but I beat him that year so he put on a Swifty head the same as mine and gained 14bhp on the same rollers (Southern Carbs). I think that says it all.
Ive been dealing with Swifty for 9 years now and have broken through to his friendlier side. He still says "What the F**K do you want? you C**t." when I phone him, but thats what extreme southerners are like.

lol whilst we are giving opinions lol

Morspeed, arent in my good books at the moment, been ringing and ringing, but no answer, leave messages, no calls returned, and i live too far away to "pop-in"

So slark will always get my money. Brian is a legend, he will suggest things and if you dont opt for them, isnt offened, and always does his best work.

Slarky have always been very helpful when ive popped along, only spoken to niel though. did a dyno run on my golf.

Im getting an engine from morspeed atm, as it was a bargain on there used section, and i know they do good stuff, but they are being VERY slow. over 2 months overdue- fully paid up 3months ago. even said it was in the post a week before coombe, and it hadnt even been on the dyno! aparently that was the dyno guys fault though.
