Ok here is a mini from New Zealand that I found at is only $5000 and that is plus shipping to the U.S.
So the actual car is only $3000 dollars which is 1740 pounds. But here is what the add says!

"He's a very nice little Classic 1976 MK3 Mini .This is a New Zealand RHD rust free Mini which is ready to become your daily driver. There is absolutely no rust or any sign of rust repairs. There are a couple of tiny dents here and there. But for a 30 year old Mini this is to be expected.
She has been used as a daily driver and been in the one family since new .

Everything is totally original and the heater works as well.

Good condition rust free minis are getting very hard to find down here now .

Besides being an appreciating classic this little Mini will give you fantastic gas milage.

I can land this kool Mini at your US port including shipping for a total of $4900.

.This is a RHD New Zealand Mini not a rusty reshell from the UK and we DONT salt our roads down here.

I have shipped over 80 cars to the US in the last 5 years.

I can give you excellent references from my many US customers.

This 1976 Mini can legally be imported into America because of the exemption for classic vehicles 25 years old or older.

I can ship drive on drive off to Longbeach, Baltimore, Norfolk Virginia, or Savannah for $1950. This Covers all port to port costs.

I can also arrange for you to pay the shipping when your car arrives if this is more suitable.

There are no major hidden port charges with rollon rolloff and duty is only 2.5% of purchase price. It does take around 12 weeks for the ship to arrive.

I will help with customs clearance queries and supply you with the correct paperwork to make for a smooth clearance. I will also send you step by step instructions on how to clear customs yourself."

What you guys Think???
He a keeper?

Sweet. I think I am going to get him. I asked about the rust in the engine bay and he said that there is a a bit of surface rust around the brake and clutch master cylinders as the fluid eats away the paint. Is this still ok? He said the rest of it is rust free.

just give it a poke with a screw driver should be fine and solid, but you want to scrap it all off and rust treat it though then paint it again

Looks ok,

Very good considering the age. Does the seller offer any kind of warranty as he's trade? Is there a NZ equivalent to an MoT or smog test?

The heater looks odd for a saloon but it isn't a UK model. Also looks like the floor has been pushed up, not unusual at the hands of slap happy mechanics and tyre fitters.

In NZ we have a WOF (warrant of fitness). Smokey exhaust is checked, but most places don't messure it yet.

The heater is odd for a NZ model as well, I haven't seen one like it.

Also no edging strip on the arches, the spare tyre is shouldered and he's sat a little low (suspension worn?), not OTT for a spritely 34 year old I suppose?

What do you think of the price Goldstein, care to hazard a guess with your local knowledge?

As long as the condition is good then $3000 NZ is probably about right. My 1973 was $5000 recently, but has no rust at all except for a little bubble on the bonnet. All the bushes are pretty shanked on the suspension though.

It's almost summer here now so there are quite a few for sale. Trademe our ebay has quite a few at the moment which would give a good idea of NZ pricing.

Minis are getting rarer down here though so it's a shame to see it leave.

Well good luck with it

Don't offer the asking price right off, the car looks genuine but it doesn't look to have had any restoration done so I bet he got it fairly cheap.

Ask about the warranty of fitness 'n push him to offer a guarantee that the engine, gearbox etc aren't about to fall to bits.

Looks pretty good! Just one thing I noticed was the reshaped clutch arm - it should be straight and has probably been heated up and bent to compensate for wear in the arm and clutch plunger. Parts (clutch arm, plunger, clevis pins) should cost around £50 or so, but you'll have to take off the clutch cover to replace them, so is a bit of an awkward job. It probably isn't a deal breaker, but could possibly be used as a bargaining tool
