Hi
I have not got myself a workshop manual yet so simply can anyone tell me where all the grease nipples are on my 97 Mini? Or at least how many there are so that I know I am not missing any. Also do I just use basic lithium grease and can I get a grease gun from any old motor factors such as halfords or bullseye?
Stupid basic questions I know but I am not used to these :erm: old fashioned cars.

Front suspension, 3 each side (top ball joint, bottom ball joint, upper arm shaft bearings)
Rear suspension, 1 each side (radius arm shaft bearings)
Also grease the handbrake cable guides on the bottom of the rear subframe, the handbrake quadrant pivots under each rear radius arm, a little on the handbrake ratchet mechanism and trunnion (where it is attatched to the handle) and also a little on each handbrake lever on the rear brake backplates (NOT MUCH, it will migrate inside the drum if you use a lot). That's enough to keep it on the road, but you can also hit some other bits like the bonnet catch and door hinges and locks which will all help to maintain the car.
Rover (BL, Austin, BMC or whoever else) and Haynes say Duckhams LB10 (Haynes always agree with the manufacturer about all fluids to avoid being sued),
Castrol LM is fine. That's what I fill the gun with anyway.

the ones for the subframe are easyest to find!
you know that circle thing infront of your rear wheel theres one just by that! on both sides!

Just get a flexible delivery hose for the one you have, it makes all the greasing jobs a lot easier. Those small push on type grease guns are not much good for general servicing, they are for special jobs really (I use one at work on a certain type of camera dolly, or they are good for the front trunnions on a TR6 which need oiling but that's another matter).

Mine is my dads old one from when he had his mini in the 60's, the attachment is stuck on solid so i cant even get a flexable hose for it.
