Since my mini hobby became an obsession when i finished uni a few years ago, ive never had a garage... ive been a 'street gutter' mechanic, but last winter I decided, thats IT. im fed up of the darkness the rain and the wind. So its time I bought a new house.
My only criterea when scouring for a new house was that it had to have a garage. not just any garage, i didnt want an enclosed 'driveway' garage, i wanted one 'round the back' or something as I know how upset neighbours can get when you've got the angle grinder our after 8pm.
after viewing several properties, i decided on a house, and moved in the end of May.
The house had a pre-fab garage at the bottom of the garden, it was one of these really small garages you could park your car in but not open the doors. but I could see the potential, and whats more the house was in an area I wanted to live in, and the pub is a 4 minute walk.
so when i moved in the garage looked like this:

i wanted to make it wider, but from the angle the above picture looks at it, Behind it, was years and years worth of dumped rubbish so I had to clean that out first

and i wanted it alot longer, i thought 19ft would be adequate!!, long enough for two minis nose to nose

then its time to remove the asbestos roof

then their is a blank area in my photos, i mixed 8 tons of sand and ballast, and extended the floor both in width and length

in the above picture you can see the roofs on, and my use of 6"x2" beams for roof gurders...

at the above picture end of the garage, i have used two gurders next to each other, this is where i hook my hoist for engine lifting

here it is semi finished, taken from the patio

ok, now another big void in my photography, these pictures were taken the other night, some 2 months after finishing the garage.
i now have AMPLE room all round the mini, to work on it, mains electricity, tube lighting, and a gas heater!! its LOVELY

so as you can imagine, this year when the clocks went forward, and the nights start drawing in, it doesnt bother me cus I can still merrily plod on with the mini in the warmth of my garage at the bottom of my garden!!!. its great. Its even better when its pi**ing down with rain.
Since completing the garage i have developed a bit of an obsession, paying extra attention to the 'in progress' sections of the mini-mag checking out everybody else's workshops!!..
So I thought, perhaps If I start a new thread inviting everybody to post pictures of where they store their spanners and spend their evenings it might encouage more mini owners to build a little house for their minis!!!
so come on ladies and gents... lets have some piccies!
