What mods need to be done to a 998 to fit a standard 1275 head using standard 1275 rockers and cam?
Rough costs etc.

Not going for all out power I just want something which a bit of poke compare to the standard 998 in the 25

Cheers,

the quotes i got today were looking at 50 quid for pocketing, 50 quid for bore and honing.

but more machining may need to be done on the crank etc

Well the engines for my new project (once I’ve found a decent donor engine) and still needs to be insurable and fairly cheap as funds are limited if I want to do all the other bits and pieces to the rest of the car.

I done this a few years ago, all i done was bolted it on, checked the valves did'nt hit at full lift then ran it!!. lasted over 3 years of hard use. It only had the 1000 std cam in it tho. Dave

High lift cam or a skimmed head might cause you troubles.

Guy here did it with a router and a hardcore bit for it. White still in the car too.

as i had a head laying around it only cost me a gasket, well worth doing, it will higher your c/r so you may have to use octane boster in the fuel.I done mine when you could still get leaded!

I know I like to do thinks on the “cheap” but I’m not that tight, how would you stop all the C**p going down the bores and into the oil / water ways, and then if some did find it’s way in how would you get it back out? as if you left it in there it wouldn’t be long before the engines scrap.

Suppose the only way I’m ganna know if I need the block pocketing it to bolt the head on and try turning it over by hand and go from there.

I'm sure my existence on this flimsy film of reality is fading.

The guy on here who did it with the engine in the car filled the bores with paper, coved the block in THICK oil and plugged the oil ways with paper. Afterwards bit of thinner to thin the oil and take the metal off. Maybe a blast of air over the block or a hover.

Job done. Hell if you use a router you can hook a damn hover to them.

woah woah woah.

I wouldnt take that risk to be honest. JetBLICK put a 12g940 head on his 998 and used a dremmel to pocket the block. First time round he didnt pocket it enough and one of his pistons smashed.
He then started work on his second block and dremmeled it a bit more and its fine.

Dans car is pushing 64bhp at the fly IIRC and he has a 286 kent cam with a few other goodies bolted on. but dont cut corners it will only come back and kick you in the backside.

Ah, but I currently don’t have router or bit so would need to by one which would work out the same as getting and engineering works to pocket the block. And at least then I would know were the bottom end would be up to it, as there not point in trying to makings faster if there already knackered.

True, but give the engineering companies a call, there are loads up by me, which doesnt help you, but Bromsgrove Engien Services charge about £30 to pocket the block.
