hi

i fit a 296 sp on my 1380 cc engine
i use an aldon ditributor.

around 2500 and 3000 rpm there is detonation on the block

the ignition timing i use at 1000 rpm is 7°

i don't find information in order to know how to set my aldon.
only that the aldon advance distributor seems to be at 20 or 25 at beetwen 5000 and 5400 rpm. it's not easy to set up correctly.

if i need to reduce advance or or to increase this one.

i use a weber. i use 200 and 170 in air
45 for the pump and 55f8 with 36 chocke on a 40 dcoe weber carburator
facet fuel pump with king fuel regulator at 3.5 psi
i check the carburator and 8mm on the float

what's your point of view or personnal experience on this sort of problem

tks

see ya

Rrrrolling rrrroad!

Almost impossible to get the ideal advance curves by guessing...you could retard the dizzy but then you'll be trading off everywhere else for the same of one rpm/load condition..assuming it's ideal to start with..was it RR'd when it first hit the road?

Detonation is really bad though, I would retard the timing even if it does come at the expense of less power.

back

I tried this afternoon several things

I reduce adance to 6°, to 5° and finally 4°. better but not perfect
I try to reduce hight of the float to 7 and then 6 mm on the weber. better but still problem just around 2500

I got in stock other jet 50f15, 50f2 and 60F8 and 55F8 are still in the carbi
about choke, i think to refit 34 mm at the place of the 36 mm

Nobody knew this problem ?

no rolling road in my area....

do you think we can reduce again the hight of the float to 6 mm ?
i tried 45 and 35 for the pump, must better with the 45

i can up the pressure of the fuel with the fuel regulator. 3.5 psi now, increase it ?

i need tipes....

you really need to get it to a rolling road so you can get it set up correctly with fuel and low and high revs aswell as the currect distributor setting. were do you live, i am sure someone can advise you on here or other forums of rr near by

nobody tried to expose their experience like on this web site on seria A engine our forum ?

I'm sure there are people who know their set up with a similar spec engine ...

i keep the faith to resolve this problem;

when i fited my weber 40 on a 1275 cc, I believe i was able to jet a weber dcoe. I am obliged to acept i'm stupid and unable to jet my carby

you cannot set up a weber and aldon dizzy without a rolling road.

it took a guy 1hr 45 mins to set mine up on a rr and he was a weber specialist!!

if you carry on messing about and guessing you will kill the engine. sorry but there is no guides to do it >_<

noooooo go higher.. not lower, try about 16degrees advance, if it goes away then start lowering the advance till just before the pinking comes back. Ideally get it done at a RR tho because they will set the dizzy advance at about 3-4000rpm, this means it'll be perfect just when you need it. It wont help if the webers not set up properly, but you should be able to reduce it enough to see you through till you get to a RR.
