I have e-mailed burlen fuel systems about there carb kits asking for what is included in each, the first time they replied they sent a e-mail saying find attached the info needed but i didnt get any, so i asked again and got another e-mail with no attachment.

Does anyone here know what is included in these kits: (carb id: FZX 1415)

CRK 121 Rebuild kit
CRK 65 Service kit
CSK 003 Sundries kit

Thanks

Jackman

First of all what are you rebuilding.... make an assumption here, an HS4.

You can get what's called a full repair (rebuild) kit which includes, butterfly, spindle, all gaskets, gromets, jet, floatchamber valve etc... which will be iro 50 quid

You can get a service kit , which is as above, but does not have the butterfly or spindle, but has jet, gaskets gromets, iro 25 quid

Normally with a carb which is on a car, you'd get away with a service kit, the rebuild is only realy required when bits are missing, or the bushes are worn.

Cant say that I know what is in the sundries kit... as never used one.

You might have your codes mixed up, service kits are called CSK's.

The gasket kit has: engine and air inlet gaskets, float lid gasket, damper piston washer (if fitted) and jet tube seal and washer.

The service kit has all that plus: float chamber needle valve, jet and jet link clips.

The rebuild kit has both of those plus: throttle spindle, throttle spindle bushes, throttle disc, throttle securing split screws.

That's it, any other missing screws, clips, levers, washers or anything else you need will have to be ordered direct from BFS by part number.

Get a copy of the Burlen Bible, it has exploded diagrams of all the carbs and lists of all the parts available for all makes and all setups. I got this info from my copy, it's ver worthwhile having.

Sorry, yes its a HS4, it needs a total rebuild really, the throttle leaver and everything on it is very warn and moves alot in ways it shouldnt so that needs changing, the jet sticks on the carb, so it generally needs a good overhall of things getting replaced, i think ill go for full repair kit, where can i get one from??

by the way Dan, the info i got was off the e-mail sent to me.

Must be Burlen who got the codes mixed up then! The numbers are right but the letters are wrong. A sundries pack must be something new as they aren't on my list which is only two years old.

FZX1415 -
Gasket pack AUE811
Service kit CSK65
Reduild kit CRK121

It might be that the sundries kit has all the little screws and springs and stuff, so try to ask them what's in it (again!). If it helps, never ever talk to the first people who answer the phone there. They tend to be temps. I always ask for the technical department as they actually know things.

If you really need a new throttle lever (you might find your current one will be a tighter fit on a new spindle) then you may have trouble finding one. AFAIK they don't come in any of the packs (unless they are in the sundries pack) and there are dozens of different types to choose from. You may end up having to fax them a picture of your current one so they can match it.

I always buy Burlen stuff direct from them over the phone, no mark up and they understand what you want.

I know it seems very old fashioned, but try the phone. BFS is largely staffed by, shall we say 'gentlemen of an earlier generation'. They've been making carbs for a long time, and they're a fairly old fashined company. Their website is useless and apparantly so is their E-mail system, so give them a call.
