Ok a friend of mine is looking at a Turbo, his question is, is it reliable? Could it be build to last at least 80 something kilometers.

A properly built and well maintained Turbo motor will give many miles of good service. It is when worn or poor components are used, maintainence is neglected or the engine/transmission is poorly assembled that problems arise.
Most Metro Turbo engines have had a hard life, so unless your 110% sure the motor's sound then a thorough strip down and inspection is called for.
Buying a smokey old engine, throwing it in a Mini, thrashing the nuts off it and expecting it to last is a fools game.
Obviously the power the Turbo produces will put added stress on the engine/transmission so don't expect it to do 100,000 miles without a rebuild. But a well built and maintained standard motor will last a good while. Obviously when you start to tune the engine the intervals between rebuilds will be shorter.

I like to calculate my figure in minutes... The numbers look better that way.
