The tab washer that folds over the end of the drive strap on the pre-Verto setp up, and then locks the backplate bolt, I've found out they are no longer made by anyone, apparently. Does anyone know where I could get some?

Or, if I have to, what metal should I use? Just normal steel?

I think most aftermarket companies say to use either spring washers or locktite on the U/Light kits.

Given the low torque these bolts are done to (18lb/ft IIRC) then I'm sure a dab of loctite would be more than up to the job.

Failing that I would be looking at a tocktab from elsewhere I could modify to suit - diff casing or drop gear casing perhaps? At least then you know the material spec is correct.

yes i needed some last week, an the guy at minispares north said he could only supply them as part of a locktab set for £30.. HOW MUCH!!!

so i have reused my old ones,, for the 4th time now. i see myself having to make my own in the future with some thin sheet steel, a hacksaw, drill a hole, and a vice to bend it.

Yea, I know what you mean about only getting them as part of the kit. Simon informed me of this, however Mini spares North must just be getting through back stock now, as Simon said either (I can't remember which) the kit is now NLA, or the kit isn't supplied with the tab washer anymore (think is was the kit is now NLA).

I've used mine about four times too, but one has started to split along the fold, so don't want to use them again. I'll look at getting some thin sheet steel, failing that I think I'll go with locktite.
