i agree with bumgle, twin webers are overkill IMO even for a highly tuned 998. even on a 1380 it would hardly be justifiable. even a single weber on a 998 is pointless.

but to answer your question, the pros are- an induction noise so fierce it makes you do a little sex wee, and increased bhp IF your engine is tuned to a suitable level to get the most out of the carb.

cons- cost- twin webers are hellish expensive, and a single is not cheap. you will need to buy a fuel pressure regulator, manifold for the carb (longer the better- around 100 quid for a good maniflow one), exhaust manifold if you have a one piece job, cut a big hole in your bulkhead, and your fuel consumption will be unbelievable. my 1380 on a weber 45 manages 16 MPG which means that she drinks half a tank just going to and from the nearest petrol station that sells super unleaded.

oh yeah, and ramp pipes (if they are not fitted already) and a k&n (or similar) filter or sock filters do a good job too, just to add to further expense!

A lot of people get mixed up between twin Webers and just a single Weber. With a single Weber there are two barrells that go through the carb and then connect to the inlet manifold, unlike a normal SU which has one throat which then connects to a manifold then splits into two branches. A lot of people see these two barrels and think they are twin Webers.

Real twin Webers are when you either use two Webers (not possible on a 5 or 7 port A series engine, but possible on 8 porters, or non A-series), or you get two Webers and lop one barrel off each carb. This is only really needed on the most firery of fire breathing engines!

A 40 DCOE Weber can work ok on a modified 998, if jetted correctly. Most applications though a HIF38 SU carb would be best for all round economy and performance, or a set of twin SUs for a bit more torque and responsiveness.

:(

Gotta agree with the majority ere. If they're twin split dual choke webers ie, as jammy said each ones got a two barrels and look like this... then thats a bit overkill.

If its just a dual choke weber, a 45 or 40 it looks like this... a 45 would be overkill on a 998 too, and a 40 is only really needed if the engines well tuned, thers nothing stopping you having one, its just that they can be expensive for no real gain in power.

There are single choke webers that they fitted to old fiestas.. they're not worth having... neither are the IDF webers that come off old escorts that some people put on minis.

Basically if its neither of the above, dont bother
