Austin Mini 1000, ....ABSOLUTELY RUST FREE underneath...sills, floor, battery floor and box, incredible. BUT ONLY 30,000 ORIGINAL miles since new.
Engine: 998cc, 155-160 psi compression in every cylinder, 70-75 psi oil pressure when warm, no smoke, excellent 4 speed all synchro trans, new exhaust, new brake flex lines (we pulled each drum and checked the wheel cylinders and shoes...all are fine), just fitted a brand new set of Minilite type alloy wheels with 165/70SR10 Dunlop radials (or can sell the car, for less, with its original steel wheels, hubcaps and 145R10 radials), very clean interior...seats, headliner, dash, door panels, etc., heated rear window, new halogen headlight conversions, runs and drives like new.
A bit of rust bubbling at the bottom of one external door skin, some cracking in the paint on one door, a bubble here and there...looks fine but really needs a bit of repair and a repaint to be made really nice. However, consider this...virtually any other comparable Mini on the market looking better than this car probably is filled with bondo and just waiting to crack and bubble through. At least this car has original paint (and, as seen in the photos, is presentable just the way it is)...what you see is what you get.
Overall, a very nice super low mileage Mini 1000. Add a bit of rust repair (no perforation, just some light bubbling at a few spots) and a repaint and it will be as nice a Mini as exists. At least, on this side of the Atlantic.
Have been driving it around...even on 9 degree days, heater works very well, car has great traction on snow or ice, cruises very nicely at 65mph, feels very 'tight'....not so surprising with a mere 30,000 miles since new.
AND WHAT FUN!!!!!!!!!! Although I have driven and owned a good number of original Austin/Morris Cooper 1275"S" cars, the Mini 1000 feels quite good. Maybe 'cause there isn't any torque steer. But smooth, quiet, refined (for a Mini), and with all of the fun handling/steering/shifting of the more powerful cousins but the advantage of the superior rod change all synchromesh transmission...the result is a wonderful little collector's car.
Cruises nicely at 65-75 mph, smooth, VERY quiet, better ride than I recall, oil pressure stayed at a steady 75 psi, heater was powerful, and on the winding road leading to my house, it was fun playing 'Monte Carlo Rally driver.'
How is this little guy????
