Clutch Pushrod Is Now Too Long

My pre-verto clutch was slipping; so i have taken it out, but could not find any problems. I chose to renewed the orange diaphram, clean up the friction plate as it was vg condition, then went for the early a+ plunger with floating bearing (all pre-verto)
now i've got it all together it appears that the pushrod which goes inside the slave cylinder is too long; i have released the long arm adjusting nut on the bell housing so that i can move the arm and feel when the release bearing touches the diaphram. this seems ok; and i can actuate the clutch with a long bar, that feels alright.
shall i just cut it down? or have i made a mistake putting things back together..

na, when i locate the rod into the slave, the piston is at the outside end, so as i push it home the piston inside moves but comes to a stop. alas its not where it needs to be
It should push back right down the cylinder keep pressing to allow the fluid time to return. If it won't play you may have to strip the slave cylinder it could have worn a groove in itself.

The Verto and pre-Verto push rods are the same size, so its not possible that you've got the wrong push rod (if the push rod you have is indeed a standard mini item).
Could it be your clutch arm is bent?

You have unbolted the slave from the transfer case? You won't get the pushrod back in with everything assembled. Might be stating the obvious, if it is sorry.

i can push the slave cylinder onto the pushrod, but it stops in total about 1 inch from the back of it (on the inside) and the bolt holes are about 1cm short of where they need to be.

hmm. clutch long arm is only 3 months old, looks fine to me. I've stripped this 4 times now in about 3 years, i've got it quite sussed now, but this perplexes me!

1 inch short of the closed end sounds about right. I believe the end of the push rod should be between the 2 bolt holes when 'at rest' if the clutch is ok.
