Out of interest, how do the buttones on the steering wheel work? I mean i understand it all, but how do the wires work with the turning of the wheel?

Easy, works well, amp is very loud and works really well with the iPod. Can't wait to get the PC installed!
Dash is tided in place with string, everything works, except the main and headlight warning lights are the wrong way round - can't be bothered to swap them as it needs to be dark to check that its not the lgihts that are wrong too. String used to fix dash while I work out if I can shift gears with it in place.....
Done, easy.
Think this is correct, though all the wires are the same colour, so perhaps the no charge and oil pressure are wired the wrong way round, will test later.
5. Fit a few bolts here and there
6. Fit passenger seat and seatbelts
7. Check ignition timing
Found a stray wire, earthed it and its back in business
9. Check wiring on number plate bolt lights
NO! Damn. I can pull away in 2nd, I can get 3rd and reverse, but can't get to 1st, will need some more string to shuffle the dash about a bit. Can't select 4th either, definitely something not right in my gear selector. On the look out for a metro one which is longer, will be an easy fit. I got one off an 1100 metro, but it was before i found out the 1100s aren't all A-Series, so if anyone needs a K-series gear shift......
11. Design a switch panel to sit between the seats and the gauge pods then get my Dad to machine them up for me
12. Check clutch adjustment
Just back and forward around the drive, but it works. Starts on the button, but it idles high, then if you blip the throttle it drops to almost stall. Drop the idle and it does stall. Have had loads of issues with the engine - see above - but hopefully adjusting the ignition timing will sort that out, if not it should be ok until I get it on the rollers.
Think I need some heat shield for exhaust tunnel as it gets hot! Anyone know where I can buy that sticky heat shield insulation type stuff?

Jammy, you were wondering before you sold me the dash how you would go about fitting it: Three pieces of string was all it took
Don't worry, its mounted slightly off where it will end up so I can get all the gears, once I have moved the gear shift mechanism It will be screwed in place properly.
As I haven't fitted my flasher relays to the steering wheel switches yet I've been enjoying being able to flash patterns with the indicators, so I tihnk I'm going to wire the flashers through a switch so I can turn the flash off on demand, so I can thank people for letting me out in a more creative way.
Maybe get some more done tomorrow, my bird is coming, so I suppose I'd better put the passenger seat in, hopefully can check the clutch adjustment and the ignition timing too, depends how drunk I get later.........
Pics tomorrow if you're lucky!

I have set the ignition timing from 14 degrees to 10 degrees as recommended by MG, fitted the passenger seat and seat belt and adjusted the clutch to try and eliminate clutch drag. I also put the stering wheel on properly as I was driving straight with the buttons out by about 90 degrees!
Its a verto clutch so shouldn't need adjusting but it looks like the adjsuter was never set properly whent he engine was installed - set at 13mm, instead of 6.5mm, have corrected and seems to have made a big difference, though don't have time to go driving to check. A couple of sprints up and down the drive were positive though.
I went for a drive earlier today and got as high as 3rd gear, Jason is fantastic! Compared with my last mini (13 x 7) the 10 x 5s and quick-rack make steering so easy! And he has the most amazing induction roar, its a shriek really, the sound of a hurricane going off in the engine bay! The exhaust doesn't make as nice a noise as the Playmini that was on my old one, that would just be the icing on the cake noise-wise, but I don't intent to sort that out until the custom exhaust is dead, and its never been used, so that won't be a while. I prefer the look of the playmini, but this one is completley original, so scores very good points for that.
Speaking of sound, the amp is absolutely fantastic! I've never really understood the point in expensive installs in a car as accoustically poor as the Mini, and this underlines that opinion. I don't know much about amps, but I have a cheap one that I got second hand off someone on here for £20, I ahve an iPod going into it and a pair of 9" speakers in the parcel shelf. The sound is really impressive and more than loud enoguh to drown out the engine, not that I'd ever want to. Speakers came with the car and aren't anything special either, well chuffed with that.
Couple of niggles; the indicator switch isn't flashing when I turn left, but is when I turn right! Very odd this one as all power to the indicator circuits goes through the flasher relay! Will look into that eventually I suppose and a few other minor wiring bits to take care of when I can be bothered.
Anyway, the pictures I promised are below, the dash is professionally installed as you can see. (three bits of string!), but as I said, is temporary while the gear lever is being moved. Knowing me temporary will be until christmas. Do you like my gear knob? No? Anything bigger and I can't get first gear! Never mind!

I moved house though, so Jason has his own little garage to hide away in and he won't get quite so dirty just sat on the drive!
When I moved him to the new house (about a mile and a half away) he died a death about halfway at a set of traffic lights, I had an escort so I was able to pull to the side of the road and get a tow, but still!
I think the problem was a fuel supply one, though he had plenty in the tank. I don't know if there's a problem with the fuel pump perhaps, but I'll need to have a look at it. I'm now just round the corner from a pretty good garage, so I may take him there to see if they can get to the bottom of my carburettor problems, or I might Weber him when I get some cash, not sure.
Will be back when I have more.........

Today Jason was fitted with a HIF44 carb on an MG Metro manifold, after much grinding and general messing about with the air filter. Blanked off the crank-case breather inlet and haven't plumbed in the manifold heating system, or the fuel over-flow pipe yet, so a few little bits to sort out, but he fired up very quickly, was expecting some hard work, but took about 10 seconds! Good Jason!
I adjusted the carb from one extreme to the other, but, like the last carb, he's running far too rich! I dont' know what needle it's running, but WinSU recommends a BCD and a yellow spring, so I'll be getting those shortly and hopefully that'll give me the adjustment I need.
It's little concerning that both carbs have been far too rich, but probably just coincidence. I vertainly can't think of any engine faults that would cause that anyway.
I noticed that after he'd fired up there was a bit of leaked petrol on top of the fule pump and the fuel line. I'm not sure where that's come from, but I think maybe there's a fault with the pump somewhere, so looking at a new one of those too.
MOT is due at the end of the month, but I think I'm just going to SORN him as I can't afford to tax/MOT him this month and I can't really drive him until I've done a few things:
1. Move seat lower and back
2. Move gear lever back
3. Finish various little wiring issues - flasher relays, digi-dash, couple of switches, screw dash in place etc
So, another step in the right direction, but still some work to do. I'm going to try and give him a wash this weeks and then setup the bonet (the HIF44 sticks out higher than the bonnet line) and then I'll get some updated pics!

thsi is a nice project mate.

I think it's a Curley Carbon Fibre one, I got it from Jammy, third hand I think. The switch panel I made myself. It'll look better when the digidash is in and all the wiring is finished, though everything works at the moment.
I just took him out of the garage to tidy up, then when I put him back there was a bit of a smell of petrol, so I had a look about, looks like I might have a slight head-gasket leak at the back, so think I'll be whipping the head off at some point too now (
