Sva Test Did You?

my car is due to be finished very shortly,
im very worried aboutt taking to sva testing, as i was with a freind getting his lotus 7 (caterham) for testing not to long ago , and they drove the car like they didnt give a C**p and slammed his car into the braking bay like louis hamilton would, when he slammed it into the bay the sump hit the floor , when he had it up on the ramp later on we noticed he had dented the sump in , and we also noticed he had low oil pressure on the dials,
at the test center we moaned about this , and they said that if its that low to get into the bay or bottoms out then they can fail it just on that,
£130 later after buying and new sump and oil pickup we tried to get the money back for damages and they said the same thing as before.
ANYWAY!
what im worried about, i have done some messurements and my manifold is in the same sort of area infront of the backwheels as his sump was behind his front on his 7. if the car would land on that then there would be CONSIDABLE much more damage! could even snap the threads on the block!
the main reason for this topic is :
is ther anyone out there who has not takin there car for a SVA and just risked it on MOT? my insurance company didnt even ask me if it had passed SVA or even asked for a certificate........
Any response ?

Read this page, but don't come back if you still don't know afterwards! lol
Its a massive grey area and some people have just had them MOT'd, others have had SVAs. Adyzr1 used all new parts, had his SVA's and got a brand new 07 plate.
a zcars hits all those points, which means it would have to be, its monocoque chasis too i guess,
I would of pulled the car straight out of the test and phoned head office at Swansea demanding my money back. There is no specified minimum ground clearance (as daft as it may seem) that's why they have a test road and a decelerometer.
tried to get money back, they said the same thing, and that they have complete faith and understanding about the sva testers.

no win situation
******
to be honest im not going to take mine to sva, might do after a year of owning it , but not straight away, so atelast i can drive it with a smile on my face before i give it to people to brake something crucial and ruin 2 months trying to fix somethign the broke,,,,,
anyone on here not SVA'd theres ?

My thoughs on it is that really it should be SVAed.
I think god forbid if you were to crash it and it was not SVAed then the insurance could, if they knew anything about it, refuse to pay out. That would be my main concern.

Whether it should or shouldn't have an sva I will know in a few days as i've just emailed vosa and asked the question. Will let you know.

Since 2001 the only way to avoid having the car go through the SVA has been to retain the vehicles "complete, unmodified chassis or monocoque body" which certainly isn't the case with the Z-Cars conversions...
This article seems pretty relavent:
Total kit car
Upside of having it SVA'd is that once its registered by law you don't need an MOT for three years.

Having had a good read through direct.gov.uk & the articles on totalkitcar.com I can't see how you can avoid not having the car SVA'd...

No mot for three years on a brand new car (amature built) With one main component reconditioned like the engine.
I took my R1 to show the tester at my local sva station. He said it could be submitted for a voluntary sva if I wanted.
But as it retained the original shell and registration and was still a mini in his eyes, Why bother.
At the end of the day an sva test is to register a vehicle for the road.

I believe it's only Adyzr1 and z-cars themselves that have sva'd one of these. I will be doing it early next year with Andy's but only because it's been built with all new parts and we want a new '08' plate.
Whether it should or shouldn't have an sva I will know in a few days as i've just emailed vosa and asked the question. Will let you know.
Sorry to drag up an old thread, but Pete did you get a response from VOSA about this?
