Been thinking of where to mount the head unit in my van - theres no room in the dash, unless I put it on the passenger side, and I'd rather have it within reach so I can skip tracks and adjust the volume easily. So, would it be possible to mount it vertically in the big mk1 door pocket? It'd be nice and near, and fairly hidden from prying eyes. So
1. Is there any issue with mounting the H/U vertically?
2. Would the shock of the door opening/closing wreck it?
3. If I got a H/U that reads from an SD card, it wouldnt have a problem with the door opening and closing as theres no real moving parts?

Feel free to tell me I'm being a berk...

I don't think a HU will fit into the door pocket dude. Also, I think its going to be in danger of being knocked about too much.

Why not place it down by your right knee?
Or how about the old idea I shown, of mounting it into the roof?

It would fit in the door pocket with a speshul bracket. Those seats are so big theres not enough room to have it anywhere on the floor really, and because they're quite high as well I'd rather not have it overhead...

So only places really are by your right knee, or behind you, like I had mine....

Insamoufonyx, thankyou! Thats the answer! Head unit hidden away somewhere, and one of them on the column. Perfect!

Thanks!

How about getting something decent like a Pioneer with a remote?

Mine has a remote (radio not IR) so my HU can be anywhere, and I can play with all its buttons from my seat #

This is mine by the way - gone quite cheap since I bought mine

Dunno, just seems better to me to have a proper control, rather than a remote that I'll just lose. And its not like anyone will be able to see the shamefull cheapo sony headunit hidden away! Definately going to look into it a bit more.

you can get a nice little steering wheel mounted remote for the pioneer units, you can unclip it from its mount if you park in a dodgy area so nobody will know that there is any kind of stereo fitted.

Problem with them though, is it need to be in view of the headunit.
