look at the email that the !"£$£$%^&*())(*&!"£$%^&"£$%^ sent me.
Hello Matthew,
complement of the season,i am Mr David Williams from NY,Brooklyn but presently in Uk for a church programme . i saw your item advertised on ebay # 280177270038 and i am really intrested in buying it for my daughter in school and hope the item is in good condition and ready for shipment after you have received your funds.
The full payment of $1,150.00 money order, will be issued out to you from my payee, he is owing me to you immediately today so a to save time. so you are to deduct your money with the shipping fees and help send the package and the remaining fund to my daughter in school.
The payment will arrive to you by next working day and the Ex-funds will be for my daughter after shipment . Although, the value of the Money Order is more than the price of the package but i should be able to trust you with my balance for my daughter .i will instruct my payee to make out the payment to you immedaitely , so as to save time.
You are to send the remaining funds to my daughter via western union money transfer Outlet in your location as they are fast and very cheap means to wire money and you are to make sure the package is properly packaged and shipped to my daughter in school.
Do note that business must be done with trust and good faith. So if my terms are acceptable to you, I want you to send me your FULL NAME , CONTACT ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER, so i can immedately instruct my payee, to issue out the payment to you.
Reply me back ASAP,
Best Regards, David Williams

please believe me when i say that some people do. I was recently booking my holiday when an elderly gentleman came in and asked what the best way to send money via western union was, ie transfer cash?? he was adamant he was sending it as he had sent some jewelery to a guy in south america (cuba) who had overpaid and wanted to send the remaining cash £1500 to his sick mother in the usa./ The travel agent told him they could not do it in the end but im guessing he sent it anyway somehow!

i relisted it and this time it sold to what looked like a genuine buyer. i sent and invoice and then ebay out of nowhere cancelled the item and transaction due to some funny business with the buyers account and what looks like id theft of the ebay account.
so he is now emailing me asking to send it to his son in Nigeria(alarm bells going off all around the house!!!) he has send me fake emails from paypal and ebay now aswell.
he says that he has paid the money into paypal and once i send him proof of shipment to the address he supplied paypal will then send the moeny on to me!!! oh it is so funny that the guy thinks i am ripping him off now!!
as it turns out i have sold it now to a genuine a buyer and he has paid already and it will be posted tomorrow

I reported it all to eBay and they refused to relist my item for free, saying that I hadn't used the facilities to block certain buyers.
I made use of these facilities and a few weeks later it happened again. I reported it to eBay and still they wouldn't let me re-list for free. I ended up refusing to pay the fees but then got a threatening letter and they'd added charges on, so I cut my losses and just paid it all, wasn't happy.
The best thing to do is put the following in 36pt Bold Red font on your listing:
UK BUYERS ONLY. I WILL NOT SEND THIS ABROAD. I WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY OTHER MEANS OF PAYMENT OTHER THAN PAYPAL. I WILL NOT BE DUPED INTO STORIES ABOUT FAMILY MEMBERS AND OTHER RANDOM SCENARIOS. DO NOT EVEN BOTHER TO TRY AND CON ME OR YOU WILL BE DEALT WITH PERSONALLY.
I put this on every auction for something of consumer value i.e. mobiles and stuff like that. It sounds harsh but you can always add a note below it like I do with something like "Apologies to all the geniune buyers out there but you can understand the problems with scammers".

He then sent me the fake emails and we got into a bit of an argument off eBay.
I said I'd post it to Nigeria at extra cost (bear in mind this was all off eBay so I couldn't be held to it anyway). He asked how much, and I said £125.00. Quite amusing at the time, play them at their own game!

So, at the last second, some bloke in SPAIN bidded, won, and asked how much P+P would be??
After a few "heated" emails, and a five month wait - I got him to pay £90 P+P, as he was such an idiot! That still stands as my only negative! (got a neutral as well, but only because they didn't like my packaging, lol)

i sold a car on ebay took a paypal payment for it, bloke collected it, week later he complained to paypal saying that they hadnt recieved the item
paypal issued them with a full refund as i had no proof of postage
called payapl and after talking to them for ages explaining that it was a car and that it cant be posted they informed me that their policy was to give a full refund if you cannot prove you posted the item
it made no difference that i couldnt fit the bloody thing in the post box
moral of story send an empty envelope by recorded post to them so you have some sort of proof

i had a 99% identical email 2 weeks back when selling my Nokia N73
offering £300, sending a forged paypal email saying the funds will be credited to my account once i've shipped the item and provided a tracking number
so i thought i'd have a bit of fun and sent them a made up tracking number, havent heard from them since....

Well no money arrived, so I was glad I hadn't ended the sale early because she was a hoax. She even claimed that her father was going to send it via his Paypal account and again nothing arrived.
My alarm bells really started ringing when I looked up what was supposed to be her fathers business website which was for a cement or building firm in Hampshire. It was the most unconvincing website I'd every seen and I knew it was a hoax then because I remembered someone on another Mini forum mentioning that fake site and how it was being used to dupe people.
Okay they weren't ripping anyone off, just causing mayhem with their childish hoaxing.
