why bother?, cut out the section, weld in a plate, filler and paint it.

I cut off my old metal skin. Treated the frame then bonded a new f skin on. You can still use the original lock with it if you want. I've put in an internal release so no need for the lock. I am debumpering it at the back. Gonna look nice in the end.

Internal release for the boot? Sounds intresting - hows that going to work - a door popper or something?

I got a bonnet release from a car I was stripping down for someone. Got the cable, handle and locking bit. Then made up a bracket that bolts to the underside of the parcel shelf. I took out the spring from the release mechanism as it was too strong and mounted the handle at the front of the rear bin where the front seatbelt mounts. (no seatbelt anymore) All I need to do now is strengthen the parcel shelf but it all works good. I'll get a few pics up in 'the ginger one' project later or tomorrow. Don't want to do it with a popper or anything like that as if your battery dies you can't get in the boot easily.
