Err that's a good question. excluding a supercharger I can spend anywhere from £500 - £1500 given enough time (want to spread the cost and I'm not in a rush) I'm quite willing to do a lot of the strip down/rebuild myself but will probably get the head work done by someone who knows what they are doing.

I've read a few of the specs on the engine FAQ's section but at the moment I don't really know what good and whats not.

Cheers, Luke.

Right, it's been a while since I've updated this project page although I have been working on the Mini on and off.

I've mainly been concentrating my efforts on getting the Rio engine stripped and painted ready for rebuild and installation.

Today I stripped the rio engine down and cleaned it;

The starting point

During the cleaning process

I was advised by a friend who valets cars that carpet cleaner is an excellent degreaser, so here you see me using Vanish carpet cleaner and I must say that it works very well.

I cleaned the engine with a preasure washer to get rid of the majority of the dirt.

The overall plan for my Mini is Retro, so what can achieve that look better than a coat of good old BMC green!!

Yeah I'm very happy with it. I hooked it up to see what it's like and it's very cool. I wanted it to look like a standard gauge as much as possible.

I bought an engine crane last night so weather permitting, the 998 engine will be coming out this weekend. Watch this space.....

I actually bought from the "For Sale" section on this forum so I don't actually know where it came from to begin with.

Thanks, I think the progress will really start to show once the 998 engine comes out. I'll make a few changes along the way, including reverse flip-front (american style) brakcets are on the way!

Luke.
